Imphal, April 17 2026:
The Federal Students' Organisation, Kangleipak (FESOK) has criticized the Directorate of University & Higher Education over the formation of a new Governing Body (GB) at Pravabati College in Mayang Imphal.
In a release issued today, FESOK informed that Pravabati College has been functioning without a regular Principal since December 10, 2025, after the tenure of the previous Principal ended.
The student body claimed that despite several written reminders to the relevant authorities to appoint a qualified head, the Directorate remained indifferent.
FESOK highlighted that Director L Radhakanta was well aware of the leadership vacuum, as the Directorate had previously communicated with the Examination Controller of Manipur University to appoint an Officer-in-Charge for exams in the absence of a Principal.
The controversy erupted following the events of April 16, 2026, when an 11-member Governing Body was reportedly constituted.
FESOK alleged that the meeting was called using the signature of a former Principal whose term had already expired and was not extended.
The formation was reportedly facilitated by Joint Director Aribam Ramashankar Sharma and two representatives from Manipur University, Prof M Chourajit and Dr Kangujam Sanatomba Meitei.
The student body termed the inclusion of certain individuals, including a donor named 'Chirom Sunil', as unfortunate and clandestine, especially given the current socio-political unrest in the State.
"At a time when Manipur is going through a period of turmoil, the Directorate is busy forming Governing Bodies through back-door entries and ignoring established norms", the FESOK statement read.
FESOK has demanded that the Directorate of University & Higher Education immediately review and nullify the illegally formed Governing Body.
They also urged the authorities to prioritize the appointment of a qualified Principal to steer the college forward.
The organisation warned that if the Directorate fails to rectify these wrongful actions, the officials involved will be held solely responsible for any subsequent student agitations or disruptions to the State's education system.
