A 36-year-old Manipur Police Constable from Thoubal who duped unemployed youths of huge amounts of money in the name of giving them jobs in Manipur University has been caught and handed over to the police today.
The Constable, Kongkham Pradipkumar Singh of Thoubal Athokpam Khunou, was caught by the Kangleipak Students' Association and handed over to the Imphal police for necessary investigation and legal actions.
Speaking to reporters at the office of the KSA at Khoyathong, its president, Sukham Bidyananda said K Pradipkumar is a member of an organised gang operating in Manipur University who lures unemployed youths to dupe them of money.
The gang lures youths by showing them fake orders of recruitment of various non-existing posts and offers them fake appointment letters in return for money, Bidyananda said.
One of the gang members identified as Binoy, who poses as an employee of the University in the Administrative Block, and another named Jayanta, who poses as a "Runner" for the VC, lure and trap the victims, Bidyananda said.
Binoy and Jayanta manipulate their victims and make it appear before the victims that their money for the jobs are handed to University authorities.
On March 17, the gang issued a fake selection list containing names of 13 candidates.
They also issued fake appointment letters.
They allegedly took around Rs 7.5 lakh from the victims, Bidyananda said.

The gang lures and takes advantage of unemployed youths who are desperate for jobs.
So far, there is no known connection between the gang and anyone from the University, Bidyananda said.
The police are believed to investigate the case and take actions.
The KSA will also continue its investigation of the case and catch all persons involved in the racket, Bidyananda added.
