Bishnupur, October 15 2025:
Saying that Manipur needs a change, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president K Meghachandra maintained that the current situation in the State is unsustainable.
The Wangkhem AC MLA made the remark during an event held at Kumbi Setupur Lampak in continuation of the Congress party's nationwide signature campaign for "Vote Chor Gaddi Chhor" organised by Kumbi Block Congress Committee yesterday.
Addressing the gathering, the MPCC president said that it is time for the public to engage in collective decisionmaking for the welfare and transformation of Manipur.
The campaign was launched by the Congress under the leadership of LoP Rahul Gandhi and AICC president Kharge and continues to be held in different constituencies of Manipur, he said.
The MPCC president said that the campaign was initiated in view of alleged voter irregularities exposed by Rahul Gandhi with regards to the general election process and to call for accountability from ruling party leaders.
At the end of the campaign, the party will send the signatures of over 5 crore people to the Election Commission of India.
This will also include the signatures of the people of Kumbi AC, said K Meghachandra.
At the event, the Wangkhem AC MLA said that the double engine BJP Government has been unsuccessful in maintaining law and order and has left the displaced folks in relief camps for more than 2 years.
Many have lost their lives, their homes and properties while the BJP Government failed to ensure movement of people within the State.
The Indian Government assured to provide 2 crore jobs annually to the youths while the Manipur Government promised 1.5 lakh jobs every year.
It was also promised that black money will be brought back to the country and 15/20 lakhs will be deposited in people's bank accounts if Narendra Modi comes to power.
However, none of these assurances have been realised, alleged K Meghachandra.
As educated youths continue to face unemployment, the country has become a hub for corruption where the public's voice remains unheard.
Under such dire circumstances, many sections of the population, including intellectuals, now wish to see changes in Manipur.
As the Congress party moves forward to unite the people against forces challenging the democratic structure of India, it is time for leaders in Kumbi constituency to stand together for unity, justice and human rights, said the Wangkhem AC MLA.
The event was attended by S Bira Singh, former MLA Kumbi AC; L Radhakishore Singh, former MLA Oinam; Y Surchandra Singh, former MLA Kakching AC; S Jeeten, general secretary administration, MPCC; general secretary organisation Wahidur Rahaman; general secretary protocol W Shyamjai; social activist W Sobha Singh; L Inaocha Meetei, Kumbi Block Congress Committee working president; vice president L Sharatchandra Singh; vice president Md Basir and MPCC office bearers and leaders of Kumbi AC .
