All objections from the Airport Authority of India against the proposed solid waste management project at Lamdeng being planned by MAHUD under the sponsorship of Urban Development Ministry have been cleared off.
An official source informed The Sangai Express that earlier there was objection from the AAI on the ground that location of the solid waste project within 10 kms radius of Imphal airport may cause disturbance to flight by hovering birds.
However, a few days back the AAI has withdrawn their objection and the same was intimated to the State Government.
The Urban Development Ministry has also assured to release all the necessary once the State Government acquire the required land for the solid waste project whose estimated cost is Rs 25 crores.
Subsequently, the State Government has initiated land acquisition process for the project, disclosed the official.
Earlier Chief Minister O Ibobi wrote to the Civil Aviation Ministry to withdraw the objection.
On the other hand, solid waste management and garbage picking work from Imphal Municipal Area has already been entrusted to NGOs and private bodies.
