Saikul MLA Kimneo visits relief camps, calls for peace and reconciliation

Amid tension and uncertainty following the recent violence in Litan-Sareikhong, Saikul MLA Kimneo has emerged as a reassuring presence for displaced families, extending solidarity and support while pushing for peace-building efforts in the affected region.
The violence, reportedly sparked by a drunken brawl, led to the burning of more than 40 houses in Ukhrul's Litan-Sareikhong area, forcing many families from both communities to flee.
Authorities have since imposed indefinite curfew, and internet services remain suspended in Lhungtin SubDivision of Kangpokpi District and Phungyar Sub-Division of Kamjong District.
In the aftermath of the unfortunate tensions , Saikul MLA Kimneo has taken proactive steps to promote dialogue, restore calm, and extend direct support to families displaced by the violence.
Demonstrating both political responsibility and humanitarian concern, the legislator joined hands with concerned leaders and key stakeholders to facilitate dialogue and mutual understanding between the affected communities.
Sources close to the discussions stated that her intervention was aimed at preventing further escalation and creating space for reconciliation through constructive engagement.
Amid the prevailing uncertainty, MLA Kimneo also personally visited four relief camps located in Lhungtin and Saikul, accompanied by Saikul-based civil society organisations (CSOs).
During the visits, she interacted closely with displaced families, listened to their grievances, and assessed their immediate needs.
KSO Saikul has recorded as many as 850 Kuki-Zo displaced persons who fled from Yaolen, Patleijao, Litan-Sareikhong, Mongkot Chepu, Zalenbung, Sangkai, Songphel Mulam, Chassad, Molnom, Lamlai Chingphei, and Urangpat as of February 11 .
The displaced Kuki-Zo families have been sheltered in various relief camps at Lhungtin, Saikul, and other villages under the aegis of Kuki Inpi Saikul Gamkai.
The MLA's visit has been considered a morale-boosting moment for camp inmates, many of whom have been grappling with trauma, displacement and loss.
The MLA reportedly assured the affected families that sustained efforts are underway to ensure their safety, rehabilitation, and eventual return under secure conditions.
Engaging in detailed discussions with community representatives and CSO leaders, Kimneo emphasized the urgent need for restraint unity, and collective responsibility in restoring peace in the region.
She reiterated her commitment to pursuing all possible avenues - both administrative and community-driven - to secure a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
Community leaders welcomed the outreach initiative, describing it as a positive step toward de-escalation and long-term stability.
