World Breastfeeding Week observed widely

The Department of Community Medicine, Shija Academy of Health Sciences (SAHS), Langol, today organised a Health Talk Programme to mark World Breastfeeding Week 2025 .
The programme was held at the Community Hall of Wangdei Meitei Leikai, Langol, Imphal under the global theme, "Prioritize Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems".
As per a release issued by Shija Hospitals, the Health Talk Programme was organised in collaboration with the Wangdei Meitei Leikai Women Welfare Association (WMLWWA).
The initiative formed part of the Family Adoption Programme (FAP) under the National Medical Commission (NMC) and was conducted by MBBS Phase II, Part I students (2022-23 Batch) currently posted in the Department of Community Medicine.
The programme witnessed the participation of approximately 50 women from the local community.
Under the supervision of the faculty from the Department of Community Medicine, the students delivered a structured health talk with pictorial presentations highlighting the importance of breastfeeding.
The session was followed by an interactive discussion led by Dr Soram Goutam, Associate Professor and Head of the Department, Community Medicine, SAHS, addressing the queries and concerns raised by the attendees.
Participants appreciated the efforts of SAHS in organising the awareness programme.
Moreover, Acme Fertility & Healthcare Centre today organised the 6th session of the World Breastfeeding Week 2025 celebration at its premises in Thangapat Mapal.
The event held under the theme "Prioritize Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support System", was graced by Dr James Elangbam, secretary, Breastfeeding Promotion Alliance of Manipur (BPAM); Dr Mrinalini Konjengbam, Medical Superintendent, Acme Fertility & Healthcare Centre; Ningombam Nalinibala, Principal, Acme College of Nursing; and Th Binodini, immediate past secretary, TNAI as presidium members.
Dr Ch Smilie, Associate Professor, Department of Paediatrics, RIMS, Imphal also attended the programme as a resource person.
At the event, speakers shared that World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated annually from August 1 to 7 to promote breastfeeding and improve the health of infants and mothers worldwide.
They asserted that World Breastfeeding Week emphasizes the numerous benefits of breastfeeding for both infants and mothers, including providing essential nutrients for infants, reducing the risk of certain diseases, and promoting bonding between mother and child.
Later, a poster competition for nursing students was conducted and prizes were distributed to the winners.
