Imphal, July 27: Several organizations have strongly condemned excesses of police force to disperse peacefully assembled women members to protest killing of Thangjam Manorama Devi and demands for lifting Armed Forces Special Powers Act.

These organizations also cautioned personnel of law enforcing agencies against using brutal force to foil the democratic agitation while demands for resignation of the legislators have mounted.

As part of the ongoing agitation to protest the killing and demand for lifting AFSPA, sit-in-protests and rallies were also organized at many places.

Showing solidarity to the movement in Manipur several thousand members of Bangladesh Manipuri Chatra Samiti, Bangladesh Manipuri Sahitiya Sanchar, Bangladesh Manipuri Sampradari Kalyan Parishad and Bangladesh Poirei Apokpa Marup formed 'human chain' at Dhaka's Central Sahid Minar yesterday.

Prof Mesba Kamal of Dhaka University's History Department, chairman of All Bangladesh Drama Association Manorur Roshid, secretary of Indigenous' People Forum Sanjeev Drong and general secretary of Indigenous Students' Organization Ujol also participated at the protest.

Decrying security force personnel's excesses Manipur State Students' Forum reminded to the State forces that the ongoing agitation also includes their interest and suggested that they should act with restrain while dealing with angry protestors rather than apply brute force.

Describing the police action as inhumane and cowardly Chanura Liching Marup cum Nishaband, Sagolband Tera Lukram Leirak said despite the severe police action it would never relent till the people's demands are conceded.

Members of Mayanglangjing ZP recalling the pledges of Ministers and MLAs for lifting AFSPA and shifting of Assam Rifles from Kangla during election campaigns observed that their silence and insensitivity to the ongoing agitation would have negative repercussion in the future.

Endorsing the ongoing movement in demands for punishment of guilty AR men and lifting of Disturbed Area status Public theatre Artistes Assn, Nambol Phoijing decried the conduct of State authorities for performing last rites of Manorama without the deceased family's approval.

Condemning the killing of the 32 year old woman members of Kakmayai Mahila Mandal Assn, Yairipok staged sit-in-protest today.

Similar protest was also organized at Wangkhei Tokpam Leikai from 10 am till 4 pm by women folks of the locality today.

Members of the business community also staged sit-in-protest to condemn killing of Th Manorama and demand lifting of AFSPA at Jain Temple from 10 am till 3pm today.The protesters were dispersed by police personnel with use of force.

Students and teaching staffs of Bal Vidya Mandir Higher Secondary, Kongpal also staged sit-in-protest at near the institute's entrance gate today.

The agitators also strongly condemned the heinous police action to foil MUSU members from staging democratic protest yesterday.

Sit-in-protests were also staged at Haobam Marak Khaidem Leikai, Langthabal Lep Awang Leikai, Heirangoithong Yangam Leirak, Huikap Junior High School, Khurai areas, Sawombung.

Protest rally was organized from Maharabi till Kanglatongbi and from Naoremthong Laishram Leikai till Iroisemba today under the aegis of respective women and voluntary organisations.

The protesters also shouted slogans against conduct of Manorama's last rites without the consent of the deceased's family.

Decrying use of brutal police force to disperse democratic agitation of MUSU members yesterday members of Manipur Young Assn and Apunba Nupi Marup of Kwakeithel Konjeng Leikai burnt effigy of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh.

The women body also mooted that all the 60 legislators of Manipur should take active part in the peoples' movement.

CC Hr Sec School Students' Union, Model Club and Chingamakha Meira Paibi Apunba Lup, Leimarol Apunba Lup, Singjamei, etc have also flayed police action on MU students.

Meanwhile, Minuthong Women's Welfare Assn and Manipuri Sahitya Parishad (Assam) strongly condemned the security force excesses and prolonging AFSPA.

Flaying police personnel for using brute force to disperse peacefully and democratic form of agitation All India Students' Federation, Bishnupur district council pledged its unwavering support and participation at the ongoing movement.
