Poana Brajabasi's last rite memorial observed

The 134th 'Aroiba Mathou Mangam Pangthokkhibagi Ningshing Thouram'/Last Rite Memorial Programme of Paona Brajabasi was observed by Paona Mongpham Protection & Celebration Committee at Arapti Paona Mongpham Ground, Arapti Maning Leikai on Saturday.
The observance was attended by Lok Sabha MP Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, LMC Ward No 8 councillor Basir Rahaman, Paona Brajabasi's descendent Paonam Pishak and family members.
The event was marked by 'Wari Leeba' and religious songs performances while Dr Bimol Akoijam led the participants in paying floral tributes to Paona Brajabasi.
Speaking on the occasion, MP Bimol stated that many were martyred during the Anglo-Manipur War of 1891.They volunteered in the war because they loved their motherland and people are paying respect to those unknown martyrs along with Paona Brajabasi, who had led them in the Battle of Khongjom.
He praised the ideals and sacrifice of Paona Brajabasi and appealed to the present generation to emulate such ideals, while quoting his words at Khongjom Battle "I know we will die, but let's not die retreating.
No retreat", as recorded in Cheitharol Kumbaba.
Observing that pessimistic mindsets is a bigger enemy than the people who are trying to disintegrate Manipur, the MP appealed to public to love and stand for the motherland and throw out any negative thoughts.
