Imphal, April 24 2025:
Former MP Dr RK Ranjan Singh distributed 23 e-rickshaws designed for garbage collection as part of Oil India's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative today.
The programme held at the residence of Dr Ranjan at Kongba Nandeibam Leikai was also attended by Mayor of Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) L Lokeshwar, Commissioner K Chandrakumar and Chairperson of Imphal West Zilla Parishad L Boby Devi.
At the function, Dr Ranjan said he had requested Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri to provide e-rickshaws for waste collection to local bodies in Inner Manipur Constituency during his tenure as Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Education.
Out of 50 e-rickshaws, 35 e-rickshaws have been distributed so far and 15 more will follow shortly, he said.
Saying that Imphal Municipality areas alone generate a significant amount of garbage daily, he said that the e-rickshaws were distributed with the goal of keeping the city clean.
Even educated individuals contribute to the problem by dumping garbage in rivers, he said.
He also said that tourists who visit Manipur often leave with a negative image of the State due to the dirty rivers, foul stench, and open garbage dumps.
He urged people to stop littering and dumping garbage in public spaces, emphasizing the need for responsible waste disposal.
