Inferno reduces mills to ashes

Kakching, April 21 2025: A saw mill and a rice mill located between Wabagai Lamkhai Bazar and Lamjao, under Kakching police station, have been reduced to ashes in a major fire today at around 1 am.

The fire, suspected to have been caused by a short circuit, burnt properties including machinery worth around Rs 40 lakh.

The mills belonged to one Mayengbam Manikumar (46) of Wabagai Mayai Leikai.

After receiving reports of the fire, Kakching fire substation and Mayang Imphal fire substation rushed teams and fire tenders to the site.

With the mills filled with logs and other easily combustible items, the firefighters struggled to control the fire.

The fire was put out at 9 in the morning.

Kakching police have registered a case for investigation.
