Imphal, November 20 2024:
Condemnations from different sections have poured in over the gruesome killing of the six women and children by Kuki Narco Terrorists in Jiribam.
Terming the brutal killings as a cowardly act and terrorism, the Peace & Integrity Committee Kyamgei (PICK) has demanded justice for the six women and children who were killed by Kuki Narco Terrorists in cold blood and revocation of Armed Forces' Special Powers Act (AFSPA) 1958, which was re-imposed in the jurisdiction of six police stations in the State, including violence-hit Jiribam.
Addressing a press conference today at Khagemba Macha Ibungo Laibung in Kyamgei Mamang Leikai, PICK convenor Chingakham Meghachandra expressed concern over the prevailing situation of Manipur and strongly condemned the cold blooded murder of six innocent women & children by Kuki Narco Terrorists in Jiribam.
He also strongly denounced the silence & inaction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N Biren Singh over the recent abduction and gruesome killing of women and children by Kuki Narco Terrorists in Jiribam district which sent shockwaves throughout the State.
"The PM expressed his anger over the horrific video of two women paraded naked in Manipur last year and promised tough action against the mob.
However, he has not uttered a single word over the gruesome murder of innocent women and children including an 8-month-old infant by Kuki Narco Terrorists in Jiribam", said Meghachandra while demanding the PM to take immediate & strong action against the Kuki Narco Terrorists.
He questioned the reason behind the reimposition of AFSPA, 1958 in areas under six police stations instead of taking action against the Kuki Narco Terrorists who have been continuously targeting innocent civilians including women & children.
He also cautioned that if the Government of Manipur does not give a clarification to the public about the reimposition of AFSPA 1958, the people will be forced to rise up and the Government will be held responsible for any untoward incidents.
Furthermore, Meghachandra said that if the thousands of Central Security Forces deployed in the State are unable to protect innocent women and children from the atrocities of Kuki Narco Terrorists, they should go back from Manipur and keep watching from a distance.
H (o) Leibakleima, joint secretary of All Kiyamgei Nupi Chaokhat Thourang Lup was also present at the conference.
Meanwhile, around 500 students of College of Agriculture, Iroisemba, Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal held a candlelight vigil in honour of the three women and three children killed at Jiribam after they were taken hostage by the Kuki militants.
