Senapati, May 20 2025:
The All Naga Students Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has reiterated its support for the Indo-Naga peace process and demanded an unconditional release of all Naga political prisoners.
In a press release, ANSAM stated that its second presidential council meeting, held recently at Konsakhul Village, reaffirmed its commitment to the peace process for a logical conclusion in line with the Framework Agreement signed on August 3, 2015 duly recognising the Naga National Flag and Constitution.
ANSAM expressed solidarity with Naga political prisoners held in India and Myanmar, demanding their unconditional release as a confidence-building measure.
The association urged the Indian Government to adopt a fair and just approach to resolve the region's longest-standing political issue with political will and magnanimity, rather than a double-standard approach.
Reaffirming its opposition to the Indian Government's decision to abrogate the Free Movement Regime and impose border fencing in Naga homeland, ANSAM added that its presidential council meeting had unanimously agreed to take up democratic course of actions to register their sentiments and for stoppage of the imposed border fencing works and reinstatement of the FMR.
The presidential council meeting, after thorough discussion, reaffirmed its firm stance to protect Naga ancestral land and people, ANSAM said.
The Association, meanwhile, expressed deep concern and dismay over the April 5, 2025, incident where the Konsakhul village chief, chairman, Pastor, and several villagers were brutally assaulted by aggressive villagers from L Phaijang, Munlai, Haraothel, and Kuki militants disguised as civilians.
Noting that leaving such issues unattended and unresolved is troubling, ANSAM warned that the Naga people's understanding and silence should not be misconstrued as weakness, affirming their resolve to safeguard their land and people.
