Senapati, June 16 2025:
The emergency Presidential Council meeting of the All Naga Students Association, Manipur (ANSAM) on Monday reaffirmed its stand to oppose scrapping of the Free Movement Regime (FMR) and construction of border fencing in Naga areas.
It has also demanded immediate withdrawal of an FIR registered against student organisations with the Senapati police.
Addressing media after the meeting, Angtesang Maring, president, ANSAM stated that the presidential council meeting at Tahamzam, Senapati discussed several issues surrounding the FMR and border fencing in Naga areas, and the incidents that occurred during the democratic people's movement on June 2 and June 3, following alleged high handedness of Senapati SP and Addl SP (Law & Order).
The ANSAM president alleged that the peaceful movements of the Nagas asserting their legitimate and inherent rights were deliberately disrupted by the police officers with ill intentions.
The people have demanded the removal of the two police officers, however, this demand of the public has not been heard by the Government, Angtesang said.
The Senapati District Students Association (SDSA) and all the units of ANSAM have launched a non-cooperation movement against the erring officers.
This movement may intensify, if the Govt of Manipur still refuses to hear the voice of the Naga people, Angtesang added.
It is very unfortunate that the Senapati district police have registered an FIR against ANSAM, SDSA and its five federating units for standing up for the legitimate rights of the Naga people.
The FIR lodged against the student bodies must be withdrawn immediately in the interest of the peace loving people, Angtesang said.
The ANSAM president further reiterated that the presidential council meeting also reaffirmed the stand to oppose the scrapping of the FMR and border fencing in Naga areas.
If the Govt of India still refuses to hear the demand of the Naga people, the public movement against the Government may intensify, Angtesang added.
Angtesang also informed that a one minute silent prayer was observed in the beginning of the meeting for the victims of the ill-fated Air India plane crash that occurred on June 12 .
