MSCW holds training for OSC staff to strengthen support for women

Imphal, May 11 2026:
A one-day training programme for staff of One Stop Centres (OSC) was held on Monday at the DIPR auditorium, Nityaipat Chuthek, Imphal, to strengthen their skills in handling cases of violence against women.
The programme was organised by the Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) with sponsorship from the National Commission for Women.
MSCW Chairperson Th Tiningpham Monsang, Member Secretary W Phajatombi Devi, and MSCW Member Sk Sophia attended as presidium members.
Addressing the gathering, Th Tiningpham said the Commission conducts quarterly capacity-building sessions to improve skills and coordination of OSC personnel.
Interactions with experts and officials from other states help share best practices in case handling, she said.
She appreciated OSC staff for their work despite challenges and limited resources.
Complicated cases may be referred to MSCW for support, and the Commission remains accessible to women from all parts of the State, including remote hill districts, she added.
Th Tiningpham urged participants to continue working sincerely for the welfare and protection of women.
She expressed hope that the programme would improve coordination between the Commission and OSCs and promote awareness activities, inspections and outreach on women's welfare.
In her introductory speech, W Phajatombi said the training is part of activities approved by the National Commission for Women for the current financial year.
It focused on strengthening OSCs for effective rescue, counselling, support and rehabilitation of women facing violence and distress, she said.
The training aims to improve professionalism of OSC personnel and demonstrate that Manipur's OSCs are equipped to deliver services across districts, she said.
Staff from nine districts - Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur.
Thoubal, Kakching, Tamenglong, Noney, Senapati and Chandel-attended the programme.
Prof RK Lenin Singh, Department of Psychiatry, RIMS, spoke on "Psychological Support and Counselling" while Advocate Rajkishore Thiyam spoke on the Domestic Violence Act, POCSO Act, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and other women-related laws.
Women Helpline Administrator G Ravi Sharma spoke on social protection schemes and support services under the Social Welfare Department.
The programme ended with feedback and interaction.
