Political parties briefed on electoral roll revision exercise

District election authorities in Chandel, Tengnoupal and Jiribam on Monday held meetings with representatives of political parties to review the progress of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the Electoral Roll, 2026 and urged all stakeholders to ensure the inclusion of every eligible voter in the electoral rolls.
In Chandel, an all-political parties meeting was held at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner's Office under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner and Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) Md Firoz Khan.
Briefing the representatives, the ADC/ERO said that as of June 28, a total of 38,075 Enumeration Forms had been submitted out of 44,745 electors in the district.
He said the exercise was carried out with the coordinated efforts of the Electoral Registration Officer, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), Booth Level Officers (BLOs), volunteers and Booth Level Agents (BLAs) nominated by political parties.
He informed that the Claims and Objections period will remain open from July 5 to August 4, during which eligible voters whose names are missing from the draft roll may apply for inclusion.
He also stated that names of electors enrolled at multiple locations would be retained at only one place in accordance with Election Commission guidelines.
The final electoral roll will be published on September 6, 2026 .
Md Firoz Khan appealed to political parties to actively create awareness among voters and extend full cooperation to ensure that no eligible elector is left out of the electoral roll.
A similar meeting was held at the Khangshim Camp Office in Tengnoupal district under the chairmanship of District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner Saurabh Yadav.
Electoral Registration Officer and Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Asghar Arzad informed the meeting that the draft electoral roll under the SIR exercise has been published and made available at the offices of the DEO, ERO, AEROs and the concerned Booth Level Officers.
He said that 39,911 Enumeration Forms had been submitted out of 45,139 registered electors in the district as of June 28, reflecting a high level of public participation during die enumeration phase.
He further stated that claims and objections may be submitted to the ERO, AEROs or concerned BLOs between July 5 and August 4 during office hours.
Meanwhile, addressing a press conference at the Deputy Commissioner's Office in Jiribam, Deputy Commissioner Hanglem Arvind said that 32,171 Enumeration Forms were distributed to electors across 40 polling stations in the 40-Jiribam Assembly Constituency.
Of these, 29,894 Enumeration Forms have been digitised, while 2,277 forms could not be collected, he said.
The Deputy Commissioner informed that the Claims and Objections period will remain open from July 5 to August 4, while disposal of claims and objections will continue until September 2 .
The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on September 6, 2026 .
The press briefing was also attended by the Electoral Registration Officer of 40-Jiribam Assembly Constituency, Laishram Tarajeet Singh.
