First round of National Deworming Day launched

The first round of National Deworming Day 2024 was inaugurated today at Kakching and Thoubal districts with the sole objective of enhancing the welfare of children and adolescents by addressing the issue of parasitic worm infections among them.
The District Health Society, Thoubal under the aegis of National Health Mission organised National Deworming Day 2024 programme today at three different places in the district namely Rice Research Centre Khangabok relief camp.
Fancier Higher Secondary School, Okram Wangmataba and Evergreen Flowers School Thoubal Ningombam.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Thoubal Dr Y Nokul Singh; District Programme Officer, ICDS Cell, Thoubal N Parango and Dr Kh Sandeep Singh.
DNO, Child Health, DHS, Thoubal graced as the presidium members of the programme held at Rice Research Centre Khangabok relief camp.
Speaking as the chief guest, CMO Thoubal Dr Y Nokul Singh informed that during the first round of National Deworming Day, Albendazole tablets will be administered to around one lakh children and adolescents under the age group of 1-19 years in Thoubal district including those staying in relief camps.
He emphasized on the importance of maintaining cleanliness and hygiene to ensure that the children stay protected from worm infections.
He highlighted the need of inculcating good habits among the children such as washing hands regularly with soap, keeping nails short and clean etc to prevent worm infections.
The CMO Thoubal also informed that Mop-up day will be held on May 7 to ensure that no children are left out.
The Albendazole tablets will be administered to the children and youngsters through schools and Anganwadi centres.
Lastly he called for support and cooperation from all for the successful conduct of the National Deworming campaign.
The programme was also attended by DPM, NHM Thoubal, CDPO Lilong and Thoubal along with Supervisors and health staff.
Administering Alben dazole tablets were the main highlights of the National Deworming Day programme held across the district.
Meanwhile, the launching programme of the first round of National Deworming Day for Kakching district was held today at Wabagai Higher Secondary School.
The launching programme which was organised by the District Health Society Kakching was graced by ZEO Kakching Yengkhom Achouba; CMO Kakching Dr Thaodem Rajen and Wabagai Higher Secondary School Principal Mayengbam Bhorot as the presidium members.
District Public Health Nursing Officer Kakching, W Hemabati; DNO Child Health Kakching, Dr E Kiran and staff of the District Health Society Kakching participated in today's launching programme.
