Imphal, April 25 2025:
Manipur Fire Service has been equipped with modern vehicles and equipment to handle fire related incidents more effectively.
The State Fire Service has received a significant upgrade with the addition of at least 10 motorcycles equipped with fire-fighting systems and four water bowser vehicles with enhanced water capacity and rescue equipment.
These new resources are expected to bring notable improvements to the department's operations.
Speaking to The Sangai Express in this regard, an official of Manipur Fire Service said that the motorcycles installed with water mist fire fighting system will greatly aid in responding to fire incidents especially at congested areas.
Each fire-fighting motorcycle is equipped with a 40-liter tank, pipeline, gun, and a 2-kg fire extinguisher, the official said and noted that these motorcycles can access areas that larger fire tenders can't .
The motorcycle, he explained, will function as a mini fire tender by spraying high-pressure mist.
He said that the mini fire tender of the department has a 3000-liter water capacity.
He noted that the problem of responding to fire incidents and the shortage of manpower will be somewhat mitigated with the addition of new equipment and vehicles.
Previously, the Fire Service would often deploy a large fire tender even for small fires, he said.
He added that just two firefighters can now tackle a small fire with the new motorcycles while the rest of the team can remain on standby for other emergencies.
All four water bowser vehicles, on the other hand, are equipped with high tech pumps and rescue equipment, he said.
Saying that the vehicles will be launched formally soon, he added that the new fire sub-station at Sawombung in Imphal East will also be inaugurated shortly.
He also said that the construction of fire sub-stations at Nambol and Loitang Khunou has been completed.
More fire sub-stations will be set up at Khumbong, Porompat and Litan, he added.
The official, meanwhile, said that the current fleet is insufficient for high-rise fires, with the service having only one Simon Snorkel.
He said that they are assembling a new high-tech fire vehicle with a 24-meter reach for firefighting and rescue operations.
The vehicle may arrive by December, he added.
