Vety provides toll free 1962 for doorstep animal care

Director of Veterinary and Animal Husbandly Services RK Khogendrajit has appealed to all farmers to dial the toll-free helpline number 1962 to access animal healthcare services at their doorstep.
Speaking to the media at his office at Sanjenthong today, RK Khogendrajit stated that the Mobile Veterinary Units (MVUs) will respond to farmers' calls.
He mentioned that the toll-free helpline number 1962 operates daily from 9 am to 5 pm, 7 days a week, to provide healthcare services including vaccinations for cattle, pigs, goats, and domestic animals like cats, dogs etc.
Khogendrajit also stated that people can dial the toll-free number to get advice from veterinary doctors on keeping their cattle and domestic animals healthy.
Saying that dedicated call centre executives will receive the calls to coordinate animal healthcare services and forward them to veterinary doctors, he added that MVUs will be sent to the callers' doorstep to provide animal healthcare services if required.
He further stated that 33 vehicles of MVUs have been deployed in different district headquarters since July 2024, equipped with tools for diagnosis, treatment, minor surgeries, audio visual aids and essential veterinary supplies.
All MVU movements are digitally tracked and daily service logs are maintained to ensure transparency and accountability, Khogendrajit added.
Every MVU comprises one Vety officer, one Paravet (paraveterinary worker) and a driver cum attendant, he said.
The district-wise deployment of MVUs, according to the Veterinary Director is as follows: Imphal East (7), Imphal West (6), Thoubal (3), Bishnupur (3), Senapati (2), Ukhrul and Kamjong (3), Chandel (2), Churachandpur (2), Tamenglong and Noney (2), Moreh (1), Jiribam (1) and Kangpokpi (1) .
Saying that the Directorate has also implemented a Livestock Insurance scheme under the National Livestock Mission to promote livestock health and security, he added that the premium fixed under the scheme is 5.25 per cent of the insured animal's value, with beneficiaries contributing 15 per cent of the premium amount and the Central and State Govts sharing the remaining 85 per cent.
