Imphal, June 16 2025:
Even as the conflict since May 3, 2023 remains unresolved and peace yet to return to Manipur, the World Meetei Council (WMC) has reiterated its appeal to the Central Government to crackdown on armed Chin-Kuki cadres operating in the State.
The Government of India should acknowledge the presence and activities of armed Chin-Kuki cadres and take actions.
This is central and key to resolving the crisis and restoring peace in Manipur, the World Meetei Council (WMC) said, in a letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi today.
It has now been over two years since the crisis in Manipur began, and yet the situation remains unresolved.
This situation of unrest is deeply concerning, particularly under your able and dynamic leadership, which the Nation has witnessed in addressing many critical issues with decisive action, said the WMC's letter, a copy of which was also sent to Home Minister Amit Shah.
If the Prime Minister were to take a determined initiative, the Manipur issue could be resolved swiftly - not in years, but in weeks, it asserted in the letter.
"We sincerely appeal to you to take a deeper look beyond the surface reports being submitted by Central security establishments based in Manipur.
These inputs, based on incomplete or misinterpreted information, do not truly reflect the ground realities or the core issues," World Meetei Council (WMC) stressed.
In the context of rapidly evolving geopolitical dynamics in Southeast Asia, allowing this conflict to fester is not only harmful for Manipur, but also detrimental to India's National interest and regional stability, it noted.
The WMC has, on multiple occasions, submitted constructive proposals and recommendations to the Government of India with the sole aim of restoring peace and normalcy.
Unfortunately, these have not received the attention they deserve.
Instead, sporadic and uncoordinated measures continue to be adopted, which do not address the root cause of the conflict, WMC added.
"We once again strongly urge the Government of India to acknowledge and act on the presence and activities of armed Chin-Kuki cadres, which WMC believes is central to resolving the crisis.
This, we assert with full responsibility, is the key to restoring peace in Manipur," WMC said, seeking the PM's attention.
"We remain committed to contributing to the efforts of National reconciliation and peacebuilding and request your esteemed office to take immediate and appropriate action," WMC said.
