Imphal, April 15 2025:
Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla attended the 81st Anniversary of Flag Hoisting Day at Indian National Army (INA) Martyrs' memorial Complex at Moirang yesterday.
During the event, Governor Bhalla offered floral tribute to the statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at the complex and visited the INA Museum, said Raj Bhavan in a statement.
The Governor said it was a moment of deep honour to commemorate one of the most historic episodes in India's struggle for independence.
He recalled the significance of Moirang as the site where the INA first unfurled the Indian tricolour on liberated soil--an act that symbolised resistance, hope and unyielding spirit of a Nation determined to be free.
Highlighting the legacy of the INA, Bhalla remarked that its pursuit of independence was driven by resolute action rather than negotiation, and represented not only a military triumph but a symbolic resurrection of India's dream of freedom.
Though INA's presence in Moirang was brief, its legacy continues to inspire generations with the spirit of courage, sacrifice and unwavering patriotism, he added.
MLA Thongam Shanti Singh, Lt General (retired) K Himalay Singh, retired Major General JS Nanda, Major General SS Kartikeya, Dy (IGAR) Brigadier Neeraj Sharma, M Joy (IAS), several other dignitaries and members of the public attended the event.
