Ukhrul, January 09 2024:
Protesting against the non payment of pending bills, the Sub-Contractors Association (SCA) of NHIDCL working under M/s Meitram Constructions Pvt Ltd shut the Camp 2 office located at TM Kasom, Ukhrul.
The ongoing highway construction work from Yainganpokpi to Finch corner, Ukhrul came to a grinding halt after the SCA locked Camp 2 office since January 6 .
Speaking in connection with the shutting of the camp office, convener of SCA, Mingyao Ruivanao highlighted that the pending bill amounting to around Rs 5 crore is yet to be released from Meitram Construction Pvt Ltd.
It has been pending for over three years now despite repeated appraisals and agreements, he added.
He further expressed dismay that Meitram Constructions Pvt Ltd deducted GST from the sub-contractors who work as labourers and termed it as deprivation of labour rights.
Regarding the difference of opinion about volume of hill cutting, the association has demanded for a joint survey for re-measurement and further urged to pay back the security deposits of the sub-contractors.
The Sub-Contractors Association has been compelled to take the extreme step of locking the camp 2 office of Meitram since the matter could not be solved amicably, he said.
