Pambei-led UNLF condoles

The Pambei-led UNLF has paid revolutionary salute and condoled the demise of its Advisory Committee president retired Professor Wahengbam Ingo alias Luwang Meitei.
According to a press release issued by the outfit's DOP&E Secretary Charairongba Thokchom, Prof W Ingo who was bom to Wahengbam Ibomcha Meitei and Wahengbam (O) Medhabati on November 5, 1948 at Wahengbam Leikai, Imphal West died on February 2, 2026 following a health problem.
Prof Ingo was the eldest son and the second of seven siblings bom to his parents.
He grew up as a hardworking student and he took active roles in the Pan Manipuri Youth League (PANMYL), then a frontal organisation of the party, it said.
After completing PUC from Manipur College, W Ingo completed BSc (Agri) in 1975 from Assam Agriculture University, Jorhat.
After completing MSc (Agri) in 1977, he joined the Department of Agriculture, Government of Manipur in 1978 as an Extension Officer, Regional Potato Farm, Chandel DC Block.
He also served as the Chairman of Manipur Agricultural College Society.
After completing PhD from Manipur University in 1992, W Ingo became the Head, Department of Horticulture, College of Agriculture.
He published 23 research papers and 24 different articles.
He also worked as a member of 14 different scientific organisations.
He also guided a number of PhD scholars.
After retirement in 2017, W Ingo received fellowship from the International Society for Noni Science in 2021.Aligning with the party's ideology, Prof W Ingo worked relentlessly to make Manipur self-reliant in food production, the outfit said.
He also travelled to different corners of Manipur and took key roles in the establishment of many farmers' organisations.
Even though he had grown weak due to his advanced age, Prof Ingo, as the president of the Advisory Committee, took pivotal roles in holding the outfit's 10th General Assembly in July 2025 which led to the successful constitution of the 10th Central Committee, it said.
The patriotism of the late leader, his sacrificial spirit and perseverance will remain a source of inspiration for the liberation movement, the outfit remarked.
It said that the demise of Prof W Ingo is an irreparable loss to the party.
It also expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and friends.
