Festival ofTraditional Performing Art forms of Manipur begins

A 7-day Festival of Traditional Performing Art forms of Manipur was inaugurated today at the Performing Space of SWACDO, Charangpat Mayai Leikai in Thoubal district today.
The festival is being organised by Kanglei Sheishaklon Shindamshang (KSS) under the aegis of the Cultural Function and Production Grant (CFPG), Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
The inaugural function was graced by Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC) Kolkata, Board of Governor Member Budha Chingtham as the chief gUest; Kanglei Mime Theatre Repertory Director and Sangeet Kala Academy Awardee Dr Yumnam Sadananda as the president and Assistant Professor of Manipur University of Culture and Ustaf Bismillah Khan Yuva Puruskar Awardee, Dr Manju Elangbam as the guest of honour.
As a part of the programme, Koijam Premkumar Meitei presented a Pena Phamshak performance on Moirang Kangleirol while the artistes of the Social Welfare and Cultural Development Organisation presented patriotic songs.
KSS secretary S Gaganchandra while presenting the keynote address stated that the festival is being organised to promote the indigenous and traditional performing art forms of Manipur.
He appealed to all the artistes of performing art forms to make sincere and dedicated efforts to safeguard the legacy of these unique art forms and let it reach greater heights.
It may be noted that artistes will showcase performances on different traditional performing
art forms.
