Meet focuses on climate change

The second inter-departmental consultative meeting on 'climate Change, which was held today with Additional Chief Secretary PC Lawmkunga presiding over the session has called upon departments concerned to submit their respective action plan proposals within May 15 .
The consultative meeting held at the conference hall of Old Secretariat was reportedly attended by top officials of Irrigation and Flood Control Department, Agriculture, Public Health Engineering Department, Power Department, Rural development, Forest, MANIREDA, Horticulture Department, Tourism Department, Health, and Environment and ecology Wing.
Among others the department representatives were advised to forward, within the specified date, their respective action plan recommendations as contained in the 'state Action Plan' on climate change to the Environment and Ecology Wing, which is the Nodal Agency on the said issue, said an informed source.
In another development, a policy programme with regard to allocation of water of the Loktak Lake, which is a RAMSAR site, has been sent to the Wetlands International South Asia.
As per information received here, the final draft report of the policy is said to classify the Lake's water allocation for the purpose of power generation, irrigation and provision as drinking water.
The draft report further highlighted gradual decaying in the character of the lake and the threat posed to its habitats and dependants.
