Loree Kaju Nungbi village celebrates Luta Panat / 4th Hamlei Panat

The 3-day Luta Panat cum 4th Hamlei Panat 2024 is being celebrated with pomp and gaiety at the village ground of Loree Kaju Nungbi village in Ukhrul district.
The Luta (seed sowing festival) cum Hamlei (Nungbi - earthen black pot) began yesterday and will conclude tomorrow.
Extending their hospitality and sharing the joy of the festival, the villagers hosted a grand feast serving the popular indigenous delicacy Nungbi Hoksa (pork cooked in the earthen black pot) and locally brewed organic beer to the visitors before conducting the cultural programme.
Gracing as the chief guest of the cultural programme, Jubilate Kazingmei, Programme Director of Volunteer for Village Development (VVD), Ukhrul lauded the Loree Kaju Nungbi villagers for keeping alive the age-old Tangkhul tradition and culture of extending best hospitable services to the visitors.

Expressing concern over the dying ancestral relations among the surrounding villages, he urged all to preserve and strengthen the relationship by sowing the seed of love and unity amongst the villages setting aside differences on land and boundary issues.
He highlighted that, 'Exploitation of land resources and soil using chemicals for economic gains is not a part of our culture.
Rather we should be focused on safeguarding our culture and identity' .
He maintained that accommodating and integrating ideas overcoming different perspectives is a must to foster well-being for all.
Attending as the special guest, Emmins Philathing commended the villagers of Loree Kaju Nungbi village for their sincere efforts in preserving and promoting their culture through the colourful display of cultural activities and conduct of indigenous games.
He also stressed on the need of promoting the traditional games without losing its essence.
As a part of the festival, black clay pottery making competition was held aimed at promoting the indigenous tradition of the village.
Phaning Sasa was declared the winner of the competition while Thotreiyo Sharon and Steel Sareng secured the second and third spots respectively.
Display of Tangkhul folk song renditions, folk dance and tug of war competitions were the main events of the day which enthralled the participants.
It may be noted that the villagers felicitated Machihan Sasa who has been conferred the prestigious Padma Shri Award 2024 for his remarkable contributions in preserving the ancient Tangkhul traditional pottery.
The villagers lauded him for his outstanding achievement and bringing laurels for the village.
