Imphal, September 26 2025:
Reacting to controversies surrounding patient deaths at RIMS, the People's Action for National Democratic Movement (PANDM) has stated that no patients or their families would be disappointed with healthcare services if doctors adhere to medical ethics.
In a press release, PANDM welcomed the RIMS authority's announcement to take action against doctors practicing at private institutes during office hours.
The association, however, emphasized that what is crucial is the implementation of the action as similar announcements have been made in the past multiple times.
PANDM noted that there are also lapses in management at RIMS even though many new departments have been opened at the institute.
Noting that patients waiting for their turn at the Radiation Oncology department, especially for warm-up procedures, find the process exhausting, it questioned whether there is a shortage of staff or equipment.
Alleging that the Pathology department at RIMS conducts affordable tests for inpatients, but expensive tests are primarily referred to private centres or laboratories, it urged the RIMS to stop referring tests to private laboratories.
RIMS appears impressive from the outside, but what is more important is the facilities and services being provided to the patients, it said.
PANDM also suggested that more security guards of RIMS be deployed at the Emergency Ward to guide and assist the patients during admission and discharge.
Public is well aware of doctors practicing in both Government and private hospitals, it said and added that taking action against a few doctors would send a strong message, it said.
Suggesting that having essentials like cotton, cotton pads, syringes, and bandages readily available at the Emergency Ward would be beneficial, PANDM added patient satisfaction would naturally follow that if everyone works sincerely.
