Woman found dead, foul cry raised

Imphal, April 21 2025: A woman was found hung to death inside her house located at Sagolband Bijoy Govinda, Imphal West under Imphal police station today at around noon.

Meanwhile, the parental family of the deceased woman have expressed strong suspicion of foul play and questioned the absence of the husband who fled from the spot soon after the incident.

According to some members of the parental family of the deceased woman, they were informed about the death around noon by those who are staying near her daughter's home, not by the husband's family.

They said that the husband and the wife used to fight everyday.

They were also informed by the locals that the husband and the wife had a fight this morning also after which the woman identified as Nongthombam Ningol RK Ongbi Lakhibai alias Tomba (51) w/o Chaoba of Sagolband Bijoy Govinda went inside her house and a few hours later they got information that Lakhibai had committed suicide by hanging in her house using a khudei.

The husband, Chaoba (74) fled from the locality soon after the death of Lakhibai.

On getting information about the death, a team of Imphal police station rushed to the spot and looked after the situation.

Later the dead body was picked up from the spot after the arrival and inquest of the dead body and its surrounding area by a team of Forensic Science experts.

The dead body has been deposited at JNIMS morgue for post mortem and Imphal police station has registered a case regarding the incident.

A team of Women Police Station, Imphal West led by the OC went to the incident site this afternoon in connection with the case.
