LPG distribution improves

Imphal, September 19 2025:
With the volume of LPG transportation increasing since the last few days, distribution of LPG to consumers has improved to some extent.
Talking with The Sangai Express, some LPG distributors said that the IOCL's Sekmai LPG Bottling Plant supplied just 10 to 15 truck loads of LPG in a day.
As such, the LPG distributors received just half a truck load of LPG cylinders.
However, the LPG supply from the Sekmai bottling plant to distributors has increased after the volume of bulk LPG transportation along NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam highway) rose during the last few days.
Convoys of LPG bullet TTs, escorted by CRPF, have been transporting bulk LPG to the State everyday on NH-37 these days, said the LPG distributors.
However, there is no transportation of POL and LPG on NH-2 (Imphal-Dimapur highway) as the highway is still unfit for movement of heavy trucks.
Since the last few days, the Sekmai bottling plant has been supplying 25 truck loads of packed cylinders on average.
As such, each distributor now gets one truck load of packed LPG cylinders.
Following the improvement in LPG distribution, the backlog of three months has come down to two months and a half.
Some distributors are able to distribute LPG refills for bookings done till mid-July while some other distributors have been distributing LPG refills for bookings done in June.
Notably, people faced scarcity of LPG refills till the first week of September and this scarcity of LPG has not been fully addressed yet.
As subsidised LPG was not available, some people bought LPG refills of 14.2 Kg at Rs 1700 from the black market.
Even though the situation has improved a little, the situation may revert to the earlier position as there would be no movement of POL and LPG convoys with CRPF escort on Saturday and Sunday.
