Imphal, May 16 2025:
The two-year old Manipur conflict cannot be resolved without public unity, CPI Central Control Commission member Dr Moirangthem Nara has maintained.
He made the remark during the inaugural ceremony of the three-day 24th State Conference of Manipur State Council, Communist Party of India (MSC/CPI) held at Irawat Memorial Hall, Chalou under Lamlai AC today.
The conference was kicked off with a rally from Pungdongbam to Irawat Memorial Hall.
The rally goers shouted slogans such as "Withdraw AFSPA", "Territorial integrity of Manipur cannot be compromised" and "No to separate administration".
Speaking as the chief guest, Dr M Nara highlighted the importance of holding dialogue while adding that one group alone cannot bring a solution to the Manipur issue.
"Additionally, a single political party cannot bring the crisis to an end.
The situation first requires a collective sense of understanding and our inability to unite is a significant drawback", he remarked.
Dr M Nara also recalled the Pungdongbam uprising/incident of 1948 wherein revolutionary leader Hijam Irabot launched a movement against the formation of Purvanchal Pradesh by merging a few North East states including Manipur.
The three-day conference is being held at the site where Jana Neta Hijam Irabot kickstarted the movement to protect the territorial integrity of Manipur.
Issues prevailing in the neighbouring states will also be discussed at the conference, he said.
Meanwhile, CPI Manipur in-charge and Central Secretary of the party, Pallab Sengupta spoke about the contributions of the CPI in safeguarding the territorial integrity of Manipur.
Other dignitaries present at the event include Langol Iboyaima, chairman, CPI State Central Commission and Leishangtherm Thoiren, State secretary, MSC/CPI.
The conference will conclude on May 18 .
