Lamp lighting and oath taking ceremony held

Imphal, January 15 2017: Lamp lighting and oath taking ceremony for 11th batch of GNM students of Shija Academy of Nursing (SAN), Langol was held today at SAN Campus.

SAN, a unit of Shija Hospitals and Research Institute (SHRI) is among the leading nursing institutes of the State.

Chief Medical Officer, Imphal East Dr Kh Indra, chairman cum managing director of SHRI Dr Kh Palin and Trained Nurses' Association of India president Thoudam Nandarani Devi graced the programme as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.

All together 35 nursing students of SAN took the Nightingale pledge in presence of their guardians and other dignitaries.

Speaking at the programme, Dr Kh Indra commented that public has high expectation that students from SAN are well trained and qualified.

There has been a boom in the field of health sector and nurses from the State are highly regarded as the best nurses in India.

Though there has been steady increase in the number of doctors and nurses lately, the State still continues to face shortage of manpower in the field of health care, he said.

He added that institutes like SAN have been doing incredible job in producing qualified nurses.

Nurses have a great responsibility not only in taking care of the patients but also in bridging the communication gap which occurs between the doctors and patients' parties.

"There is an increasing trend of blaming and accusing doctors and the healthcare institutes when their expectations are not fulfilled.

In such scenario, nurses should play an important role to facilitate easy flow of information of the existing medical diagnosis," Dr Kh Indra said.

Further he said that the CMO Imphal East will provide all necessary help to students of SAN in conducting hands on training in various health centres.

Dr Kh Palin stated that nursing students of SAN should work to keep up with the expectations people have.

He added that each and every student should self-introspect and perform better.

Commenting on the cordial relationship which nurses should maintain with the patients' parties, Dr Palin said that nurses should explain the existing conditions of the patient in a friendly way and build a rapport with the patients and their guardians.

As part of the event, various cultural programmes were also conducted.
