3rd National Lok Adalat: 51 cases settled at Thoubal, Chandel and Tengnoupal

The 3rd National Lok Adalat 2025 was held at Chandel and Tengnoupal districts as well as Thoubal under the aegis of National Legal Services and the Manipur State Legal Services Authority today where a total of 51 cases were resolved leading to a combined settlement amount of Rs 90,67,736.The District Legal Services Authority, Chandel held the 3rd National Lok Adalat-2025 at Chandel and Tengnoupal districts where a total of two benches were constituted.
With a total settled amount of Rs 5,78,000, eleven cases were resolved during the 3rd National Lok Adalat here.
Bench No 1 was presided by Binny Ngangom, District & Sessions Judge, Chandel cum Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Chandel accompanied by Rajkumar Mohendro Singh, Advocate and Langhu Saimond Anal, Advocate as members of the bench.
Whereas, Bench No 2 was presided by Fakhrul Islain Choudhury, Judicial Magistrate First Class, Moreh accompanied by Keishang Kopham, Remand Advocate, District Legal Services Authority, Chandel and Jilkhochon Lhungdim, Advocate as members.
Additionally, the District Legal Services Authority, Thoubal organised the 3rd National Lok Adalat for 2025 at District Court Complex, Thoubal today.
It was presided by District & Sessions Judge, Thoubal Nepram Sonykumar Singh as the chairman and Advocate Md Zakir Hussain and Okram Kameshwor Singh as members.
At Thoubal Court Complex, altogether 40 bank recovery cases were resolved.
A sum of Rs 84,89,736 was settled at the Lok Adalat and a total of Rs 24,38,000 was collected upfront today itself.
Judges of the High Court of Manipur, namely, Justice A Bimol Singh and Justice A Guneshwar Sharma paid a visit during the proceedings of the National Lok Adalat.
Justice A Bimol Singh handed over certificates for resolved cases.
Speaking on the occasion, Justice A Bimol said that the 3rd National Lok Adalat is being organised at all the District Courts of the State.
He said that they aim to settle 3595 cases which have been listed for amicable settlement in the Lok Adalat being held across the State today.
For Thoubal district, the objective is to amicably settle upwards of 350 cases filed before the Court.
He made an appeal to ensure that the unresolved cases are handled during the 4th National Lok Adalat scheduled for December 13, 2025.Highlighting the benefits of Lok Adalat (People's Court), he pointed out that it does not require any lawyers, is cost-effective and does not take a prolonged period to settle as the two parties can easily arrive at a mutually amicable agreement.
When a dispute is settled, the involved parties cannot appeal their case before a Court, the Lok Adalat's ruling is the final judgement, he said.
Under the Supreme Court of India, the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) settles pending court cases through a 90 day mediation initiative.
Thus, he urged people to approach the next National Lok Adalat or the Mediation Committee at their respective District Courts to settle their cases.
