Moirang, August 05 2025:
Students of Thanga Higher Secondary School staged an overnight protest at the school premises, expressing strong resentment over the transfer of a Computer Science teacher on May 26 during the summer vacation.
Demanding immediate reinstatement of the teacher, the students have warned that they will boycott classes if their demand is not met.
The Thanga Higher Secondary School, with a total strength of 400 students, is one of the institutions which were adopted under the 'School Phagathansi Mission' which aims at improving Government schools and education.
Oinam Gyaneshori Devi, a Class XII student who participated in the agitation, stated that students were forced to protest due to the acute shortage of teachers in the school and the recent transfer of the only Computer Science teacher during the summer break.
She stated that despite multiple complaints raised to the authorities concerned to fill the vacant posts, no concrete action has been taken up so far to address the issues.
The school has 11 vacant posts of teachers for various subjects, Gyaneshori said, lamenting that this shortage is severely affecting the students, especially those in Class XI and XII .
She further stated that despite the launch of Government initiatives like the 'School Phagathansi Mission', transfer of teachers without replacements has hampered the academic atmosphere and the performance of the students.
She appealed to the authorities concerned to revoke the transfer order of the Computer Science teacher by August 6 and immediately send sufficient numbers of teachers at the school.
"We will have no choice but to boycott regular classes if authorities concerned fail to address our aspirations," she added.
