Farmers training-cum-awareness programme held at Ukhrul

The District Horticulture and Soil Conservation Department, Ukhrul on Friday organised a one-day farmers' training-cum-awareness programme on the "Scientific Cultivation Technique of Exotic Fruit Crops" under RVKY-Cafeteria 2023-24 at the DRDA Conference Hall Hamleikhong, Ukhrul.
In her keynote address, District Horticulture Officer Kh Manorama highlighted the key objectives of the State Horticulture & Soil Conservation Department.
She explained that the training was aimed at imparting technical knowledge on cultivation of exotic fruits.
The department after considering all the advantages based on its unique characteristics, nutritional values and climatic environment of the fruits provided to the farmers for cultivation to increase the production yield in order to bring a sustainable economy.
Manoram stated that under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY), three fruit crops (Avocado, Kiwi and BlueBerry) will be introduced for cultivation in more than 20 hectares to the farmers of Ukhrul.
She continued that the Department is consistently supporting and encouraging the farmers to cultivate exotic fruits through various schemes such as NEC, Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH), RKVY, etc to yield high production for a sustainable economy.
ADM Ukhrul Polly Makan, who graced the programme as the chief guest, appreciated the department's initiative and encouraged farmers to apply the knowledge gained from the training programme.
The main resource persons Dr Mathukmi Khamrang District Coordinator MSRLM and Thuimaya Kashung SCO Hort & SC, Ukhrul enlightened farmers on the topics-"Package and Practice of Exotic Fruit ( Avocado, Kiwi and BlueBerry)", "Scope and Importance of Exotic Fruit Crops" and "Pest and Pesticides Management of Exotic Fruit" during the technical session which was followed by discussion hours.
And as a part of the training programme and support to the farmers vegetable seeds were distributed to all participants.
Over 50 persons including successfill and interested farmers of Ukhrul district attended the training programme.
