Imphal, May 30 2025: Due to incessant rainfall since May 28, water level in Imphal, Nambul and Nambol Rivers have breached the warning level.

Meanwhile, the water level at the gauge site of Ithai Barrage (Manipur River) crossed the warning level and briefly reached the "highest flood level" at 10 am today.

According to a "Daily Flood Report" received from the Water Resources Department, the water level of major rivers in the valley witnessed a steady rise till 5 pm today.

However, the water level of Iril and Thoubal Rivers are flowing below the warning mark.

According to the gauge site at Nambol bridge, the warning level is 772.700m, flood level is 773.700m and High Flood Level (HFL) is 774.700m .

The Nambol River crossed the warning level from 6 am today with a recorded water level of 772.725m.The water level reached 772.850m and 773.050m at 10 am and 2 pm respectively.

At 5 pm, it was recorded at 773.200m .

Due to incessant rainfall, Imphal River also breached the warning level at 5 pm with a recorded water level of 768.200m.The warning level, flood level and HFL of the gauge site at Minuthong are 785.900m, 786.900m and 788.400m respectively.

At 6 am today, the water level reached 785.450m and increased to 785.775m at 2 pm.

Similarly, Nambul River also breached the warning level with 781.300m recorded at 5 pm today.

At 6 am, the water level was 780.925m, and reached 781.125m at 2 pm.

The warning level, flood level and HFL at Nambul River are 781.175m, 782.175m and 783.675m.Though the water level saw gradual rise in Iril River, it has not yet crossed the warning level (786.700m).At 6 am, the water level reached 781.100m and rose to 782.300m at 5 pm .

At Thoubal River, the recorded water level was 774.350m at 6 am.

It went on to reach 774.675m at 5 pm, which is still below the warning level (778.915m).Meanwhile, at Ithai Barrage (Manipur River), the recorded water level at 6 am today was 769.700m reaching the "Highest Flood Level".

However, the water level receded below the warning level (769.280m) after the flood gates were opened.

At 5 pm, the water level went down to 769.200m.Senapati River has also reportedly reached "danger level" as a result of the incessant rainfall.

According to the village authority of Makhrelui, at 5.25 pm, a combined team of the town committee, Senapati PS, Makhrelui VA together with colony authorities alerted the nearby residents of Senapati River to vacate their houses if the rain continues.

The village authority has also appealed to the district administration and the disaster management authority to set up a rehabilitation centre/relief camp to accommodate if or when nearby residents have to be evicted.

Some volunteers have also been engaged in this regard.

Moreover, some portions of the road along the River Colony in Makhrelui village in Senapati were blocked due to water logging.

River water has also been rising on the lower bridge leading to Viewland Colony.

Going through the rainfall data in the Daily Flood Report, the Imphal River rain gauge station in Kangpokpi received 39mm of rainfall from May 29 (6 am) to May 30 (6 am) and 25 mm of rainfall between 6 am to 2 pm today.

Iril River in Saikul received 32mm of rain between May 29 (6 am) to May 30 (6 am) and 18 mm from 6 am to 2 pm today.

Thoubal River in Litan received 35mm rain between May 29 (6 am) to May 30 (6 am) and 13mm of rainfall from 6 am to 2 pm today.

The rain gauge station at Raj Bhavan in Imphal recorded 29mm of rainfall between May 29 (6 am) to May 30 (6 am) and another 10mm from 6 am to 2 pm today.

The Water Resources Department's rain gauge station at Lamphel received 32mm of rain from May 29 (6 am) to May 30 (6 am) and 12mm of rain from 6 am to 2 pm today.

Meanwhile at Jiribam, 26mm of rainfall was recorded between May 29 (6 am) to May 30 (6 am) and another 40mm from 6 am to 2 pm.

In view of the rising water levels, four out of five gates of the Imphal Barrage (Imphal River) have been opened while Shamushang Regulator has been fully closed.

A gate at Thoubal Barrage has been opened by 0.1 metres.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner of Thoubal and District Magistrate of Kakching have issued public advisories in view of the persistent rains.

In case of emergency, the people of Thoubal have been advised to contact 8132896056 - Lilong Circle; 9774976007 - Irong Chesaba Circle; 9679992038-Thoubal Circle; 9856540078 - Yairipok Circle; 9856159419- Heirok Circle and 9612249678-Khongjom Circle.

Meanwhile, Kakching public can contact the district helpline number 6909159819, SDO Kakching- 8794929257 and SDO Waikhong-9849393051.The advisories have instructed the public to inform the District Administration of any floodings/emergency situation at the given numbers; remain alert for possible flood and possible breach of river bank(s)/embankments; keep themselves updated with the latest weather forecast and warning issued by local, State and National authorities; stay away from vulnerable structures and trees, land-slide/flood prone areas, unattached metal sheets; prepare emergency kit with essential items such as non-perishable foods, water, torchlights, first aid supplies, lifesaving medicines etc for safety and survival; keep emergency contact handy; stay away from vulnerable structures, unattached metal sheets, banana trees, papaya trees, etc; postpone agriculture and other related activities and further advised children and elderly to stay indoors.
