"One should remember and follow the principles of Haipou Jadonang who did not hesitate from laying down his life for upholding the spirit of human freedom", Principal Secretary (Science and Technology), Government of Manipur LP Golmei has exhorted.
He was speaking at the 81st Death Anniversary Observance of Haipou Jadonang held at Haipou Jadonang Park near Keishampat Power House, Imphal today.
The observance function started off with paying of floral tributes to the photograph of Haipou Jadonang by a large number of people who turned up.
They also observed two minutes silence as mark of respect to the martyr.
Speaking on the occasion, LP Golmei said Haipou Jadonang was a leader who worked for the welfare of the people and led a movement against repressive rule of the British.
He was a leader who did not have any feeling of racial differences.
Today, we should remember the principles of such leaders for a united Manipur, he said, adding that the sacrifice made by Haipou Jadonang was also for unity among the Zeliangrong people and their development.

RK Ranendrajit, AMUCO President KT Rahman, UPF President BM Shah, President of Zeliangrong Union Amu Kamei, ICHAM President N Rajendro, Ibotombi Khuman of IPSA, Punindro Konsam of COHR, Memchoubi of Poirei Leimarol, Sakhi of AMKIL and representatives of different CSOs attended and spoke at the observance function.
While praising the patriotism of Haipou Jadonang, they also criticised the failure of the state government to erect even a single statue of the brave public leader.
Our Tamenglong correspondent adds: For the first time, the 81st death anniversary of Haipou Jadonang under the aegis of Zeilad Zeliangrong Region NSCN/ GPRN at Tamenglong Higher Secondary School complex today.
The occasion was graced by Ringthim, Steering Committee Member of NSCN/ GPRN; Dichamang Pamei, Ex- DC Tamenglong and Dm.
Nganthuanang, former Vice President of Naga Hoho as Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and President respectively.
In his address, Ringthim narrated how Haipou Jadonang started a freedom movement and hanged to death by the British.
He said that the ongoing Indo-Naga talk is going to conclude shortly and appealed to all the Zeliangrong people to support the ongoing peace process.
He also said that Rani Gaidinliu had received many prestigious national awards.
However, her aspiration for Zeliangrong integration under one administration has not been fulfilled by government of India.
"It is the bounden duty of the present generation ensure that all the unfulfilled tasks are accomplished lest the present generation be blamed by the future generation", Ringthim exhorted.
Aduan Pamei, CAO Zeilad Zeliangrong Region NSCN/GPRN, while delivering the welcome address informed that Zeilad Region has adopted resolution to the effect of organizing the commemorative event of Haipou Jadonang every year.
He also expressed gratitude to all the apex bodies of Zeliangrong community for their support and co-operation in organizing the observance function successfully.
Apart from observing two minutes silence as mark of respect to the departed soul, rich floral tributes were also paid to the photograph of Haopou Jadonang.
Renowned Singer Jiangam and artistes of Pretty Lamb Institute, Tamenglong also presented their performance during the commemorative function.
