Imphal, September 22 2025:
After the death of a woman led to the assault of a doctor and suspension of services at RIMS, the institute's Director has assured the public of an inquiry into the alleged case of negligence.
In a video message, RIMS Director, Professor G Sunil Kumar Sharma said an internal inquiry and a State level inquiry may be initiated to probe any lapses on the part of the doctors.
If lapses are found, then strong action will be taken against doctors concerned as per the law, he assured.

A late press release issued by the RIMS said both a State-level Independent Committee and an Internal Independent Committee of RIMS have been constituted to impartially and thoroughly investigate the death of the woman.
Notably, the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences - the premier health institute in the State - has been facing public outrage after several deaths occurred at the hospital in the not so recent past, due to alleged negligence of doctors.
Chaos erupted at the hospital on September 21 after a woman, identified as Chingsubam Manju, died a day after giving birth to a baby girl.
Manju was the wife of Chingsubam Niran of Lilong Chajing.
Alleging negligence on the part of the doctors, the agitated people assaulted a doctor and vandalised some hospital properties.
In the video message released today, Professor G Sunil Kumar said that the hospital administration is sharing the grief and pain of the bereaved family members.
While extending condolence, he said the hospital administration also strongly condemns the attack and assault on the doctor and vandalisation of properties which have forced the hospital to shut several services.
The hospital has filed a complaint with the police to take strong legal action, he added.
Regarding the allegation of negligence, the Director said, the hospital has rules to launch an internal inquiry to probe such cases.
While an internal inquiry is initiated, a State level inquiry may be conducted to ascertain whether there had been any lapses on the part of the doctors, he said.
There is no attempt by the hospital to cover up the incident.
If lapses are found, then strong actions, including suspension from service, may be taken against the doctors concerned as per the law, he said.
While such an inquiry is pending, he said individuals concerned should refrain from posting contents on social media that malign the image of the hospital.
Doctors aren't Gods but human beings.
They are trying their best to provide services to the satisfaction of the people, the Director said.
Professor G Sunil Kumar also emphasised that RIMS Hospital in recent days was overburdened by suspension of services at the JNIMS Hospital due to flood.
While there was an overload of patients, the doctors were rendering service to the people at their best level, he said.
He said the hospital administration is appealing to the faculty members and student union to resume services of the hospital.
An understanding is expected soon to resume the services, he added.
RIMS Hospital, he said, will continue to serve the people and improve its services.
He appealed to the public not to raise "any unfounded allegations without proof, and not to attack doctors and damage hospital properties.
