Imphal, May 17 2025:
The implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission (JMM) in Tronglaobi Gram Panchayat under Moirang AC has come under scrutiny as the locals complained of inaccessibility to tap water, despite reports submitted to the Ministry of Jal Shakti claiming every household had been provided with tap water.
Following these complaints, Lok Sabha MP Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam visited Tronglaobi yesterday to inspect the JJM implementation.
The MP was accompanied by staff of Bishnupur Deputy Commissioner and Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) and the locals of Tronglaobi.
During the inspection, it was reportedly discovered that 900 individuals whose names were included in the report claiming tap water access actually didn't have access to tap water.
Some locals complained to the MP and department staff that despite their names being listed as JJM beneficiaries, no tap water pipes had been installed at their homes.
The MP questioned the officials how the residents' names were submitted to the Ministry as JJM beneficiaries with access to tap water when even pipes haven't been installed.
Bimol asked the officials to make sure the residents of Tronglaobi get tap water facility and submit the report to him.
He said that funds released for the JJJM should be utilized transparently to ensure people receive access to drinking water.
The MP also stated that he would scrutinize the report alleging that the department charges over Rs 3,000 for pipe connections under JJM in Imphal areas.
Meanwhile, PHED officials reportedly began installing pipes for the remaining houses under JJM in Tronglaobi today.
