'New India' pledge marks 71st Independence Day celebration across districts

Imphal, August 16 2017: Like in other parts of the country, the 71st Independence Day was celebrated in all the districts of the State yesterday .

Despite heavy rain and unfavorable weather condition, the 71st Independence Day was celebrated at the Lower ground, Tamenglong District headquarters with Deputy Commissioner, Tamenglong Armstrong Pame gracing as the chief guest .

As soon as he arrived at the parade ground, the DC received a guard of honour from the parade commander and inspected the parade contingents.

After the inspection, the DC took the salute from the different 23 parade contingents comprising of students, civil police and local NGOs.

H.M Abdul Kalam, DSP, Police Station, Tamenglong was the overall parade commander of the march past contingent .

Speaking at the celebration function, Armstrong Pame referring to the video conference held on August 9 with the Prime Minister of India, he said that the PM insisted to involve the public and take stock of the field reality and to focus more on the field works rather than just concentrating on the files .

He also said that Tamenglong is now the focus district of the entire State and also the only district that is blessed to have maximum central projects starting from railways to power grid to national highways .

The NH-37 Imphal-Jiri road will be upgraded to four lane status whereas Tamenglong-Khongsang road will also upgrade to double lane very soon, he announced .

Under the leadership of MLA Samuel Jendai and Awangbou Newmei, the people of Tamenglong district will see a change and development in the field of education, power, banking system, roads and transport and health sector within a short period of time, the Deputy Commissioner added .

Civil society organizations, DLOs and officials, and security personnel also attended the celebration function .

The day was also celebrated at Senapati District mini stadium ground.

The celebration started with the flag hosting ceremony by the Deputy Commissioner, Athem Muivah .

All together 38 different contingents of Manipuri Police, NCC, Higher secondary schools, High schools, Upper primary schools and a band party of 34th Assam Rifles, Maram took part in the Independence Day parade .

Speaking on the occasion, DC Athem Muivah paid due honour and respect to all the freedom fighters of the country and said that many precious lives were sacrificed fighting against the alien rule since the first war of Indian independence in 1857 .

He asserted that it is time to introspect and ask ourselves that besides achieving political freedom are we really free from poverty, ignorance and intolerance .

Mentioning some of the initiatives taken up by the district administration towards child care and betterment of education, he said that the administration with the cooperation of other Government departments of the district, has selected some Government schools for adoption .

He informed that the district administration has also taken up steps for the uplifment of girl child who had dropped out of school due to financial or other reasons .

As part of the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Salutary Quit India Movement of 1942, Athem Muivah led all the dignitaries in taking the New India Pledge of " Sankalp Se Siddhi" (New India Movement 2017-2022) to build a new India, a Clean India, a Poverty Free India, a Corruption Free India, a Terrorism Free India, a Communalism Free India and a Casteism Free India .

Two village headmen, one village elder, one village chief and two village chairmen were facilitated with Red shawls as a honour .

The Independence Day Parade was divided into two categories.

In the NCC category Mount Zion Higher Secondary School (Boys) and Mt.

Everest Higher Secondary School took the first and the second position respectively .

In the School category Mt.

Everest Higher Secondary School (Girls), St.

Anthony's School (girls) and St.

Anthony's school (Boys) stood first, second and third respectively .

Today's function was also attended by SP Senapati, Addl SP Senapati, and all the DLOs of the district .

Kangpokpi district also celebrated the day in a befitting manner at Mini Secretariat Complex, DC's Office, Kangpokpi .

Deputy Commissioner, Kangpokpi T Ranjit Singh hoisted the tricolour and took salute of 13 marching contingents comprising of police, VDF, Scouts and Guides of San Francis De Sales School Daili, JNV, Asha workers, Anganwadi workers and school students.N.Suraj Singh, AC, 4th IRB was the Parade Commander of the march past contingents .

Speaking as chief guest, the DC highlighted the significant achievements and activities of the Government/District Administration during the last eights months after creation of new Kangpokpi district on December 8 of last year .

He also appealed to the people to extend their maximum cooperation to bring forward the newly created Kangpokpi District on all fronts.

As part of the celebration function, copies of "Kangpokpi Today" the first publication of its kind in the new district, published by DIO/DIPR, Manipur were distributed.

The DC also led the gathering in taking "New India Pledge" Sankalp se Siddhi (New India Movement 2017-2022) on the occasion.

On the occasion, altogether 18 people from different Departments of the district including DIO/DIPR, Kangpokpi were given awards/Certificate of Appreciation for their outstanding services.

Red blankets and sports materials were also distributed to village chiefs and youth clubs by the chief guest.

Thangboi Haokip, police and civil officers and public participated in the celebration function .

The 71st Independence Day was also celebrated in Thoubal district at the mini-secretariat, Thoubal wherein a total of 21 contingents from various schools and cultural troops participated.

Attending as chief guest, DC Thoubal L Nabakishwar lauded the supreme sacrifices made by various leaders in getting independence from the clutches of the British rule .

He said that we should stop hatred and work in co-ordination with each other if we are to walk the road towards development .

He appreciated the roles played by different Departments for the floodhit victims by taking up various relief measures .

SP Thoubal, K Meghachandra Singh; CO 2nd Assam Rifles, SDO, civil and police personnel and staff of various Departments attended today's function.

Meritorious certificates were also distributed to the selected employees of the different Departments .

The Day was also celebrated by Bishnupur district at the district headquarter.

The grand observation was held at the Old District Secretariat ground .

DC of the district, Bobby Waikhom was the chief guest of the function.

SP Bishnupur Jodhachandra Haobijam and Adhyaksha of the district, Th Ithoibi Devi were also present at the occasion.

A total of 11 march past contingents, including police personnel, NCC, a band party and school students paraded as part of the observation.

They were taken salute by the DC.

After hoisting the Indian National flag, Bobby Waikhom led the gathering in taking the Sankalp Parva Pledge, a pledge to build a new and better India by every citizen .

Later, certificates of merit were distributed to the march past contingents and several outstanding government employees of various Departments .

Ukhrul district also celebrated the day at Bakshi ground, Hungpung Ukhrul with DC of the district Dr Harmit Singh Pahuja hoisting the tri-colour .

Attending as chief guest, the DC administered the pledging of new India movement for 2022 before the public .

SDPO, Chingai Syed Samir Ahmad also attended the function.

48 contingents including State police, Manipur Rifles, Ex-servicemen, NCC, Scout and Guides and school students participated in the Independence Day parade competition .

NCC, Ukhrul Higher Secondary School, Little Angel English School and Oriental Naga Academy bagged first, second and third position respectively .

Tengnoupal District Administration also celebrated the 71st Independence Day at Tengnoupal Government High School ground with DC of the district Kh Raghumani Singh gracing as the chief guest .

SP Tengnoupal S Ibomcha, CO 12 AR Nektar, Government officials and locals took part in the function .

The 71st Independence Day was also celebrated at Henglep sub-divisional hqtrs in Churachandpur district with SDO Henglep Chunglenmang hoisting the National flag and receiving a salute from the parade contingents comprising of Assam Rifles personnel.

Certificate of appreciation and red blankets were distributed during the ceremony that was partly delayed due to incessant rain.

Students and villagers turned up in huge numbers to witness the celebration .

Noney district also joined in celebrating the day at Noney Police Station, SP Complex Noney Dist HQ.

The function was organised by the District Administration .

DC Noney H Worshang hoisted the tricolour.

He was accompanied by SP Noney Somorjit Singh .

The dignitaries and participants jointly sang National anthem and took Rashtriya Salute .

Addressing as chief guest, the DC said that since 1947 we have been celebrating Independence Day but we have many things to accomplish under the mission New India movement (2017-2022) of the BJP led NDA Government .

He administered a seven points pledge during the function.

Red blanket and sports materials were given to the youth clubs and village elders of Longmai Noney and surrounding villages by DC, SP and Addl SP of the district.

DLOs, Government employees of Noney district, villages leaders and general public from Noney and surrounding villages were present at the function .

Jiribam District Administration also celebrated the day at Jiribam Government Higher Secondary School playground under tight security .

MAHUD Minister Th Shyamkumar and several top Government officials took part in the function .

The 71st Independence Day was also celebrated by Kakching district at DSA Kakching playground with much fanfare.

The programme was organised by Kakching District Administration with DC of the district Neilenthang Teilen gracing as chief guest.

The DC received a salute of 37 march past contingents led by SDPO Sugnu, Athokpam Romendro .

More than 1000 people participated in the celebration function which was held amidst tight security.
