Imphal, September 02 2025:
Amid growing speculation of a possible visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the State is apparently preparing in full gear to receive a VVIP - a very very important person.
From the airport authority to the police, almost all departments and offices of the State have been instructed to prepare for the visit of the VVIP in September.
A preparatory meeting headed by the Chief Secretary was held on August 30 .
As per the proceedings of the meeting, it has been learnt that the Police Department has been instructed to take strict security measures in consultation with the "Special Protection Group team" .
While the identity of the WIP has not been confirmed, it may be noted that the Special Protection Group or the SPG is the agency whose sole responsibility is to protect the Prime Minister.

The SPG is entrusted with the task of providing proximate security to the Prime Minister, former Prime Minister and their immediate family members.
The Police Department has been directed to make all security arrangements including installation of jammers, senitization and anti-sabotage checking of enroute and function venue at Kangla and Churachandpur.
The Commissioner (Horticulture) and other departments have been directed to decorate and beautify the Imphal airport, road median from the airport to Kangla, and from the BSF Helipad to Peace Ground, Churachandpur.
The Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur has also been entrusted to make all necessary arrangements and coordinate with District Level Officers for a function in the district.
Several departments have also been instructed to install welcome gates at Herbert School crossing, Kwakeithel Ningthemkol, Kwakeithel bazar, Hodam Leirak, BJP office, Kangla, Moirang police outpost, and at the BSF helipad and peace Ground Churachandpur.
In a news analysis, The Wire said that on August 30, the Manipur Home Department issued a circular categorically stating that no leave will be granted to any police officer or personnel "from September 7 to 14" in view of "the exigencies of duty during the period" .
A senior Manipur official confirmed to The Wire that this is due to a likely visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the North Eastern State.
The official said his proposed itinerary includes Imphal, the State capital, and Churachandpur, one of the districts worst hit by the violence.
A report in The Hindu on August 31, quoting "Govt sources" had said that Modi is expected to visit Manipur in the second week of September.
If the visit goes ahead, it will be the Prime Minister's first visit to the State since ethnic clashes erupted in May 2023, more than two years ago.
Sources in the State told The Wire that the visit is being positioned as a "decisive move to bring an end to the prolonged conflict and to set the stage for a fully functional Government in Manipur" .
