Agriculture Department makes subsidized urea available

The Agriculture Department is continuing to provide subsidized fertilizers and paddy seeds to farmers across the State.
Today, the department dispatched 350 bags of urea from its mechanized farm at Lamphelpat for distribution to farmers at Khoirentak Kom Village and surrounding areas at the subsidised rate of Rs 270 per bag.
Speaking to the media on the sideline, Assistant Fertilizer Officer (AFO) Loitongbam Sanatomba stated that the Agriculture Department distributed over 93,872 bags of urea fertilizer to farmers across 54 locations in both hill and valley districts through the District Agriculture Officers concerned over 10 days from June 16 to June 25.He added that the department has also distributed urea fertilizers to farmers in areas not covered during the earlier phase of distribution by holding special camps in association with different farmer's organisations.
Saying that the special fertilizer distribution camps are ongoing under the supervision of Agriculture Director Peter Salam to ensure all farmers receive their share of fertilizers, he maintained that 350 bags of urea fertilizer were dispatched today for farmers at Khoirentak and adjacent areas with the assistance of Kom Union Manipur (KUM) president Serto Ahao Kom.
The Government has allocated four racks of urea fertilizers for Manipur's farmers for the 2025-26 Rabi and Kharif seasons, with each rack containing 56,000 bags, the AFO said and added that around 29,000 bags are expected to reach Imphal by July 10.The department is working to bring in an additional 58,000 bags of urea fertilizer to the State next month, he said.
Noting that Manipur requires around 3-4 racks of urea fertilizer annually, he emphasized that the department aims to ensure farmers receive their due share of fertilizers at subsidized rates.
Serto Ahao Kom, on the other hand, said that the Agriculture Department has already distributed urea fertilizers to farmers at different Kom villages.
Saying that the department has dispatched 350 bags of fertilizer for farmers at Khoirentak and adjacent places in Moirang area, given the shortage of fertilizer there, he thanked the Agriculture Department for distributing fertilizers and paddy seeds at a subsidised rate to ensure a bountiful harvest.
Waikhom Subash, Nodal Officer of National Food Security and Nutrition Mission, said that farmers have begun planting Kharif crops due to the timely arrival of monsoon rains and the Government has been assisting them by providing paddy seeds and fertilizers.
He said that the Agriculture department has been procuring certified paddy seeds suitable for Manipur's soils from various institutions, including Central Agricultural University, Imphal, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Lamphelpat, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Thoubal, and Rice Research Station, Wangbal, for distribution to farmers at a subsidized rate.
Despite a shortage of these certified seeds this year, the department has been providing them to farmers, he added He also said that various farmers' organizations have been working to resume agricultural activities in areas affected by unrest, under security cover.
