Girl found brutally killed at Telipati

Imphal, May 02: In yet another incident of crime against children, a 6-year old girl was found done to death brutally after her gold earring and silver neck chain were snatched.

The incident took place last night near the Imphal river bank at Telipati in Imphal West district.

The victim has been identified as Boby Sahani (6) d/o Md Manohar alias Ibungo of Borayangbi Awangleikai but staying in a rented house at Telipati Kouna Thabi.

According to the father of the victim, after having dinner last night, his daughter had gone out carrying rupee one in her pocket to buy something to eat from a nearby shop.

As the shop was located around 50 feet from their rented house, they did not suspect anything when the girl did not return home soon after presuming that she was probably playing around with some of her friends.

However, as she did not come back even after more than half an hour, the family members along other tenants started searching for her all over and reported the matter to the police.

It was at around 11 pm, that her body was recovered from near the river bank at Telipati with his gold ear-ring and silver neck chain missing.

There was one stabbing injury mark probably made by a sharp and heavy object near the pulse point of the head and strangulation mark on her neck.

Police picked up the body and handed over to the bereaved family members after post-mortem at RIMS mortuary today.

Meanwhile, police have picked three persons including one who is suspected to be directly involved in the killing of the girl.

The picked up suspect is said to be a tenant living in the next room of the rented house and he has been identified as Md Sana (24) s/o Md Islamuddin.

After the arrest of Md Sana by the police, infuriated local Meira Paibis rounded up his mother Ibem along with his step mother and kept them confined in the office of the Social Welfare Unit located at Minuthong Kounapat ground.

At around 4 pm today, a public meeting presided over by local MLA and FCS Minister Y Erabot was convened in connection with the incident.

The meeting resolved that the last rite of the deceased child would be performed accordingly and after a meeting of the United Clubs Organisation, necessary pressures would be given on the Government to produce the killer and provide ex-gratia to the bereaved family.

As the meeting was concluding, the police tried to take away the two women being kept confined leading to a confrontation with the angry mob.

In order to control the situation, police resorted to lathi-charge the mob and managed to take way Ibem.

After the confrontation, some enraged Meira Paibis forced their way inside and ransacked the rented room of Md Sana, prompting police to fire tear gas canisters to bring the situation under control.

The body of Boby Sahani has been taken to Borayangbi for performing his last rite.
