Nagaland rallies for peace

Dimapur, May 20: Nagaland today witnessed large number of people coming out in the streets all over Nagaland in denunciation of factional clashes among Naga underground outfits.

The general public demanded immediate halt of the fratricidal killings.

Today's public rallies were organized by the Joint Forum of Gaonburas and Dobashis (GBs & DBs) of Nagaland which were held in all the districts of Nagaland.

The rallyists demanded that the underground elements vacate themselves from the public areas and go back to the designated camps.

In the Nagaland capital Kohima, thousands of people walked from MLA Hostel point and gathered at the Kohima Local Ground after passing through the various Kohima streets.

At the Local Ground the participants carried out a public meeting over the prevailing situation in Nagaland.

Angami Public Organization (APO) Mhiesizokho Zinyii while delivering a speech at the Kohima public said that nothing worthwhile could be achieved through factional clashes.

Angami Youth Organization (AYO) general secretary Seyikhrielie Nagi urged the government pull up its socks to address the ongoing clashes.

Kelhouneizo Yhome of Angami Students' Union said "killing is not patriotism nor any glory, but senselessly wasting innocent and precious blood".

Naga Students' Federation (NSF) chief Imchatoba Imchen expressed willingness to extend the students' body help in the reconciliation process among various Naga underground organisations.

The NSF president then asked the government of India to work with sincerity so that the Naga political problem is solved.

Director of Nagaland Baptist Churches Council (NBCC) Rev.Kari Longchar expressed concern over the reported targeting of certain Naga tribe from some quarters and said that every Naga is important in solving the Naga cause.

Secretary General of the Naga People's Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) Dr..NVenuh urged the Nagas to be truthful in their approach.

Meanwhile, on May 27 the GBs and DBs Forum of Nagaland will hold talks with the NSCN factions in Kohima, according to Zeneivi Chase, Advisor of Kohima District GBs & DBs Forum.

At the end of the public meeting the general public gathered at the Kohima Local Ground unanimously resolved to urged the underground factions to immediately halt the factional clashes.

"We shall hear no excuse or reason from any quarter for killing but shall condemn any killing henceforth.

The Nagas have spoken in clear term that we shall not allow any killings in Naga society", voiced the gathering.

Similar rallies were also held in the district headquarters of Mokokchung, Wokha, Peren and many other districts of Nagaland today.
