Imphal, January 29 2024:
CPI Manipur State Council has reiterated its demand that the government convene a special assembly session to discuss the present situation and take a resolution to safeguard the state and its people.
On the second day of its three-day hunger strike carried out at Irawat Bhavan, here on Monday, CPI MSC secretary L Thoiren said that the party's stand for a political solution to the present crisis remains unchanged.
Since there is no possible solution to the crisis through violence, the government should be sincere in facilitating dialogue to bring an amicable solution.
Moreover, convening an assembly session to discuss the issue is the need of the hour, the secretary affirmed.
He further demanded the government to expedite border fencing, protect public lives and properties, and restore peace and normalcy by resolving the crisis through political means before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Thoiren also maintained that separate administration should not be part of the solution.
Upholding territorial integrity of Manipur, updating NRC to weed out illegal immigrants, reviewing the SoO agreement signed with Kuki militants and facilitating resettlement of displaced people are among the demands being raised by the party, he added.
