Imphal, November 01 2023:
The Forum for Restoration of Peace has urged the Government to convene a joint meeting of the MLAs and civil society organisations (CSOs) to find a solution to the ongoing crisis at the earliest.
It would be construed that the Government had a hand in instigating the violence if they fail to convene the meeting, the Forum added.
Speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club today, convenor of the Forum Ashang Kashar continued that Manipur is on the boil for almost half a year now with no solution in sight.
There is no lull in killing and violence and it is only the Government which boldly speaks about peace limping back in Manipur, he said and asked what kind of peace was the Government talking about.
What goodwill mission or peace dialogue has the Government taken up to restore normalcy, Ashang Kashar asked and maintained that the State still is in chaos and complete lawlessness.
People are fed up with the ongoing violence and they may want to leave Manipur sooner or later, he cautioned and asked the Chief Minister to convene the joint meeting of MLAs and CSOs if the Government sincerely wants to douse the flame.
The State Government hasn't paid any attention to the demand of the people to hold a peace meeting which is crucial to end the conflict, Ashang Kashar said and asked all concerned to stop making comments which can hurt the sentiments of other communities.
He also asked what is the benefit of State MLAs meeting Central leadership if people are going to die every now and then.
The Government should admit if they couldn't restore normalcy in Manipur, he advised.
Meanwhile, Ashang Kashar condemned the killing of SDPO Chingtham Anand Kumar in the strongest terms and asked the Government to book all the perpetrators.
