Archery Gold medalists Lily Chanu, Ratan feted

Imphal, November 08, 2013:
Paonam Lily Chanu and Khuraijam Ratan Kumar, who won one gold medal each in different categories in the recently concluded 18th Asian Archery Championship at Chinese Taipei were given red carpet welcome by the people of the state and ACOAM Lup on their arrival at Imphal Airport, today.
After reaching Imphal, they were taken in a well decorated vehicle and were felicitated at Tera Khamnam Bazar.
During the felicitation function, A.K.Mirabai, Minister of Social Welfare, who attended the function as chief guest, encouraged Lily Chanu and Ratan Kumar by extending token of appreciation with an amount of Rs.5000 each.
Lily Chanu, who hails from Sagolband Khamnam Keithel, Soyam Leirak is a daughter of late Paonam Shyamkanhai Meetei and Thoibisana Leima.
At present, she is studying at Khalsa College of Punjab University in B.A.first year.
25 years old Lily Chanu has been an inmate of SAI since 2004 and she under took training from coach Gunichand.
Till date, Lily has participated in various national as well as international matches and won innumerable medals.
Lily Chanu took part in the World Cup Stage 1 held at Shanghai, China from 10th to 15 April, 2013 and World Cup Stage 2 at Antalaya, Turkey from 1st to 6th May, 2013.She also won silver medal in the Asian Grand Prix Team Compound held at Bangkok, Thailand from 9th to 15th March, 2013. The reception function was also attended by Dr.Subash Basumatary, Director of SAI, NERC, Imphal and Kshetrimayum Somorendro as special guest and president respectively.
