Tupul-Kasom Khullen roadmap to connect Ukhrul with Tamenglong

Construction of a new 98 Km long road which would connect Tupul in Tamenglong district to Kasom Khullen in Ukhrul district via Bishnupur and Thoubal is likely to begin from December.
The estimated cost of the new road which would be constructed under ADB's North Eastern States Road Investment Programme is Rs 300 crore, said an official source from the PWD.
Due process of awarding the work would be completed very soon.
Meanwhile, preparation of detailed project report for development of 110 Kms long Imphal-Moreh road with ADB loan is about to be completed.
In addition, proposals have been forwarded to ADB for extension of financial assistance for construction of a ring road around greater Imphal, 65 Kms long Wangjing-Heirok-Khudengthabi road, extension of Imphal-Kangchup road which would connect with Haflong, Assam and Kamjong-Kongkangthana road.
It is estimated that construction of these roads would cost around Rs 500 crore.
In case, ADB sanctions the loan amount of Rs 500 crore, Government of India will contribute 90 per cent of the amount needed for loan re-payment while the State Government would pay the remaining 10 per cent within a period of 25 years.
Calculated at this ratio, the Government of Manipur would have to re-pay around Rs 60 crore at the rate of Rs 2.5 crore annually.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the South Asia Sub-Regional Economic Cooperation comprising of India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal and Myanmar has been scheduled on November 11 at Delhi.
ADB officials as well as State Government officials would attend the meeting.
The meeting would study about improvement of water transport as well as surface transport.
Moreover, the proposals forwarded by the State Government would be studied during the meeting.
