Tangkhul meet for peace, unity

Tangkhul Naga Long in association with Tangkhul Longnao organised a get-together for all the Tangkhul social organization leaders, Church leaders, academicians, human rights activists, women leaders, student leaders, youth leaders and former leaders of different Tangkhul organizations under the theme, 'Tangkhul for Change' at Phangrei, Ukhrul.
TNL President Artax A Shimray, while speaking at the get-together, said that the objective of the gathering, organised for the first time, was to call on every organization leaders to take part and share their thoughts to conceptualize a common goal.
Socio-economic problems, child trafficking and intoxicant issues have flooded the district, he added.
The environmental problems, cultural exploitation from the external society were analysed to cope with the fast changing world.
The participants stressed on the need to form pressure groups to be vigilant against different social changes and political developments.
More than 300 members including special guests from UNC, Bumrei and Hunphun church took part at the one-day gathering.
The Tangkhul Baptist Churches Association (TBCA) executive secretary Yarngam Muivah urged for collective effort and responsibility for bringing a change in the society.
The leaders expressed views on ensuring peace and unity forgetting the sense of zones or areas divide of the district.
Headmen Association president AS Vaomi appealed for bringing transformation from old to new for a positive change.
The unanimous declaration of the gathering envisaged enhancing quality of life and restoration of peaceful atmosphere in the district.
It was also resolved to hoist white flags at every household from this Christmas season as symbolic sign for peace and love of God, unity and service.
