Imphal, September 15 2013:
One of the biggest league football tournaments in the state- the 8th Manipur State League kicked started from today at Mapan Kangjeibung here.
The tournament is being organized by All Manipur Football Association under the sponsorship of MLA of Thangmeiband A/C Khumukcham Joykisan Singh.
Winning the opening match of the tournament played against Manipur Police Sporting Club (MPSC) by 3-0, defending champion Southern Sporting Union (SSU), Singjamei earned the full point.
It may be recalled that MPSC has been allowed to participate in the State League after it had been expelled from the 10-team league tournament last year when the team was found involving in match fixing.
At the disappointment of fans, which come to witness the match of the two most powerful teams, players could not perform well due to rain and waters around the field.
L Gogocha of SSU netted the first goal of the team in the 17th minute and his teammate Md Sahidun Rahaman (39th) scored a goal for the team.
In the 87th minute, Gogocha again scored the last and third goal of his team.
Oken and K Kiran of SSU and Nilakanta of the other team were cautioned with yellow cards by match referee for their unsporting conduct during the play, while Mukuung of MPSC was also given red card in the 88th minute.
