Manipur outshines and towers over every state

"35 Manipuri atheltes and players won medals for Services Board, 17 of them won medals for Jharkhand, 11 for Delhi, six for Kerala, 34 for Madhya Pradesh, two for Uttar Pradesh, one for Karnataka, two for Andhra Pradesh, 21 for Assam, two for Orissa and one for Bihar" .
As the 34th National Games concluded today in Jharkhand, Manipur with 48 gold medals outshone all other states of the country even though the SSCB topped the medal tally with a whopping 70 gold tally.
Services topped the charts in shooting, rowing, canoeing and kayaking as they rounded up with 70 gold, 50 silver and 42 bronze for a total 162 medals to emerge overall champions for the second time in succession.
Meanwhile, Manipur with power packed performances in Wushu, Cycling and Fencing retained the second spot next to the SSCB and was top among the states with 48 gold, 37 silver and 33 bronze for a total 118 medals.
It may be mentioned that Manipur had also won the second spot in the previous National Games held in Assam.
A total of 112 state players won gold medals, 81 players won silver and 56 won bronze medals in the national event which concluded today.
Wushu helped Manipur to outshine other states with 14 gold medals.
Next to Wushu, it was cycling and fencing which earned Manipur seven and six gold medals respectively.
Besides the 249 state players who won medals for Manipur, 35 Manipuri atheltes and players won medals for Services Board.
17 of them won medals for Jharkhand, 11 for Delhi, six for Kerala, 34 for Madhya Pradesh, two for Uttar Pradesh, one for Karnataka, two for Andhra Pradesh, 21 for Assam, two for Orissa and one for Bihar.
Their total sums up to 132 Manipuri players.
Meanwhile, six states � Jammu and Kashmir, Gujarat, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Nagaland and Chandigarh failed to win a single gold medal in the 34th National Games.
Nagaland was at the last spot with only two bronze medals in their account.
The closing ceremony of the 34th National Games typical to its chaotic build-up, turned into an utter farce at the main press centre today.
The main press centre resembled a market as many journalists could not find a place to sit.
