Imphal, February 26 2011:
About 200 students demanding an end to the teacher-government impasse marched towards the CM's bungalow today but they were blocked by the police in front of
Kalimai Mandir.
Despite the police action students sneaked up to the 1st MR gate.
Finally, the police allowed four representatives to submit a memorandum to the CM.
The protesting students participating under the All Manipur High and Higher Secondary School Students Union Co-ordination Committee, in the memorandum, brought up the matter of HSLC and HSSLC exams knocking at the door to the notice of the Chief Minister and urged him to take necessary action.
They requested the CM to end the impasse before February.
If no end is brought about within the deadline, they will not appear in the exams.
Responsibility of losing the academic careers of the students will be the sole responsibility of the government, they said.
Meanwhile, teachers under the Churachandpur District Teachers' Association (CDTA) have warned the state government that they will stay off duty from the ongoing census exercise.

In a memorandum submitted to the CM today, the CDTA stated that "with the chalk and duster down, fast unto death protests having no effect, we the teachers of Churachandpur have made a stern decision not to execute any government related works and assignments until our demand is fulfilled" .
"As such the ongoing census duty will not be attended from this day onwards.
In connection with the census, a firm promise to perform out duty without fail and with no reservation for overtime works if necessary, once our demand is fulfilled" .
CDTA reiterated that the first memorandum submitted by COTA was on 19/1/2009 demanding implementation of the 6th Revised Pay in toto.
With no response from the government COTA was compelled to a sit-in-protest on April 24, 2010.With the government remaining silent, a relay hunger strike was launched on December 6, 2010. Talks with the government on December 9, 13, 2010 and January 4, 2011, failed to resolve the issue.
"It is our firm standpoint to stick to further agitations and strikes as directed by COTA, if the demand made to the government is not met.
The Churachandpur Teachers Association profoundly believes that the need of the hour is the unity of the teachers, CDTA said.
